Class Description:

This class is open for beginning and intermediate level chess players interested in learning chess skills and having fun. We'll learn how the pieces move, simple checkmates, opening strategies, all of the rules, tactics and combinations and much more. We will also teach kids how to record the games and how to review the games. The emphasis is on playing opportunities that will help the students improve. The kids are grouped by ability to keep everyone interested and motivated. As Grandmaster Yasser Seirawan wrote in Inside Chess, "… the best way to get better at chess is to play”. Though no formal learning materials will be provided, we will follow a comprehensive learning book from one of the top international Grandmasters.

Instructor: Yude Lin

Yude's chess teaching experience started ten years ago to work with his son Embert who is an USCF Expert and beat chess master in World Open. Yude had organized and coached a few Acton School teams to play Massachusetts Scholastic Team Championships (Hurvitz Cup), and won trophies in 2012 (2nd place MA High School) and 2010 (2nd place MA Jr High). His teaching philosophy is for the kids to learn important chess basics, also have fun and develop their interests on chess. This class will cover basic knowledge on opening, middle game and end game, but focus on developing tactical vision.
